Products and services

ERWA, the association of European producers of railway wheels and wheelsets was established in 2001.  

In 2004 the members decided to leave the status as an autonomous association and joined UNIFE to build up a working group under the same name.

 

Today the UNIFE rail Wheels and wheelsets committee consists of 11 companies – Bochumer Verein Verkehrstechnik, Bonatrans, CAF, Gutehoffnungshütte Radsatz, Lucchini RS, Lucchini Sweden, Lucchini UK, Lucchini Poland, Radsatzfabrik Ilsenburg, Valdunes SAS, and Valdunes Belux – operating in 9 different countries offering the world’s leading capabilities in this domain:     

 

  • Deliveries to customers on the 5 continents
  • Turnover : EUR 950 mil. in 2009
  • Export outside Europe : EUR 150 mil.
  • Staff (excluding temporary) : over 4000 

 
The ERWA members are highly committed to supporting the Railway Industry in the promotion of railway, by contributing to improvements in wheels and wheelsets through a focus on safety, reliability and economic efficiency.

Today the activity of the Committee also includes the definition, adaptation and implementation of advanced technologies.

 

 

Strategic/public affairs activities

The marketing/Commercial Directors of each ERWA committee are involved in the Development Committee which is responsible for:

 

  • Market statistics
  • Give recommendations for the International wheelsets Congress
  • ERWA annual newsletter
  • Ensuring the lobbying and communication strategy of the group

 

 

Technical activities

The Technical/R&D Directors Directors of each ERWA committee are involved in the Development Committee which is responsible for:

 

  • Contribution to European standards
  • Contribution to Technical Specifications for Interoperability
  • IRIS certifications
  • Common R&D projects 

 

These activities are coordinated by the ERWA Steering Committee
