UNIFE statement on the Digital Omnibus
UNIFE published a statement in July 2025 on the European Commission’s upcoming “Digital Omnibus” simplification package for digital regulation. While the European rail supply industry fully supports the EU’s objectives on digitalisation and cybersecurity, UNIFE stresses that current rules such as the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), Data Act and Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) are often designed with consumer markets in mind and do not account for the long life cycles, complexity, and B2B nature of rail products. The statement highlights key asks from the sector, including the revision and simplification of these regulations, exemptions for legacy contracts, a clearer distinction between B2B and B2C contexts, and a 24-month postponement of the Data and AI Acts to allow standards to be finalised.
